Here's Johnny !!!

So we finally get the 2012 PGA season underway in the absolutely gorgeous Plantation course in Kapalua. It does look like a golfing paradise.

With the Hyundai Tournament of Champions only being open to PGA winners it is disappointing that many have chosen to give this fantastic setting a miss.

But unfortunately most of the talk has not been of the golf, but of the clash of ego’s.

Who ever came up with the idea of putting Sir Dick Faldo and Johnny Miller on the same set  needs some serious physiological counselling.

I fully expect the excellent Dan Hicks to turn up today in a referees shirt with red and yellow cards.

Faldo & Miller are like marmite, you either love them or hate them, but both have huge ego’s.

Each has had there time as top dog on different channels, both are use to having there own way.

At some stage over the next three days I fully expected them to stand up and slap their dicks on the desk just to see who is the biggest!

You can genuinely feel the tension.

It’s a bit like when Hal Sutton put Tiger and Phil out together in the Ryder Cup, on paper a dream team, in reality it was a disaster.

Every successful partnership has a dominant partner, one partner always has to outshine the other and have control. Look at the great comedy double acts, Abbott and Costello, Martin and Lewis, Hannity and Colmes, each had a senior partner.

The saving grace  in last nights broad cast was Frank Nobilo and Mark Rolfing, two guys who just do their job effortlessly. It’s never about them, its about the golf, the golfers, the course, the tournament and the location. Is that not how it should be ??

Who knows perhaps the Faldo Miller partnership may gel, perhaps we will have world peace and the tooth fairy really exists!, but you never know.

We are so lucky in the UK with SKY sports golf coverage. With one exception the coverage is all about golf, they have always had a first class team but the addition of players like Paul Lawrie, David Howell and Andrew Coltart adds a great understanding of what goes through modern day players minds.

We also score in the UK because we get far more coverage of the play rather than the studio experts, after all that’s why we watch, is it not ? We want to see golf not “I used to be so darn good”, or am I wrong ??
