Fuddy Duddy

When did good manners become a thing of the past ?

The only reason I ask this is because of #spit gate, as it has become known.

As I expected there was definitely an Atlantic divide on the subject, but I was genuinely surprised that there was a generational divide to.

While the debate over it raged on in twitter land I could not help noticing the amount of young people thought it was acceptable to spit.

I was called an old fuddy duddy by some and a lot worse by others, given the fact that I will be 50 this year it has made me think am I a fuddy duddy or do I simply have manners?

One of my major major peeves in life, as well as golf, is men wearing caps in doors, even worse eating while wearing a cap! It really does drive me into Basil Fawlty mode.

Because of my ever increasing solar panel I have to wear a cap when I am in Florida, but whenever I go inside I take it off.

Once upon entering a Denny’s the waitress said to me “gee, you English guys sure are polite”. ENGLISH !! Trust me there are not many more insulting words you can say to a Scot. I corrected the young lady on her geographical error, which only served to perplex the poor soul as she replied “but Scotland is in England??”. Now rather than feel like John Adams in Paris I decided not to pursue the matter further and just sat down.

When I meet some one on the tee for the 1st time I always remove my cap & my Oakley’s to shake their hand and introduce myself, then on the 18th green I do the same. Now is that good manners or is it being an old fuddy duddy ?

Is it wrong that I get annoyed if a playing companion does not do the same?

Maybe this is more of a society issue than a golfing one.

If people have no standards in everyday life how can we expect them to show respect on the golf course.

I like the fact headwear is banned from our clubhouse. I like the fact you are not allowed to swear in our clubhouse.

Maybe I am an old fuddy duddy, but at least I am an old fuddy duddy with manners.
