Veni, Vidi, Vici

Records are made to be broken, we all know that, in Colorado this week the ladies European smashed almost every one there was.

Youngest player ever to play in the Solheim cup, first hole in one in the Solheim Cup, first player to go 5-0-0 in the Solheim Cup etc., etc, but only one matters, the first European team win on US soil.

Yes lets praise Caroline Hedwall, Charley Hull and all but lets remember this is a team event.

And I think that was the key this week, we looked and acted like a team.

I don’t know what Liselotte Neumann did, said or made the girls do this week, but what ever it was boy did it work.

We just looked like one unit.

Wont lie, when I saw the parings for Saturday afternoon I was dumbfounded, we won 4-0!

When I saw the batting line up I thought  “mmm that’s not quite right” we won 7 ½ 4 ½ !

Now I was not alone in those thoughts, but boy am I glad to say I was wrong!

18-10 does not lie, it shows not only a win but a crushing win.

While Lotta is looking like a genius let me just say that the class shown by Meg Mallon was outstanding.

If there is a classier lady in women’s golf please tell me.

Meg Mallon is a credit to the USA, LPGA and women’s golf.

Now its over and in the record books what now?

We MUST and I mean MUST take this opportunity to put Ladies golf in the eyes of the British public and more importantly the British media.

Any media outlet who keeps an eye on social media must have been amazed by how much “buzz” surrounded this event.

Quite frankly, and I give SKY a pass on this one, the main stream media coverage of Colorado has been a disgrace.

There will be sports editors all over the UK today desperately trying to get AP reports on the event, there will be copy boys and girls trawling Wikipedia  trying to identify who is who in the photographs of the winning side, because quite frankly they wont have a Scooby who is who.

I said this immediately after Killeen, the LET need to get a major media and PR push on to promote the tour and the girls.

After Killeen this never happened, I am begging the LET not to make the same mistake again!

In a world of 24 hour news cycles you are only as good as the next story, we need to strike while the irons hot.

To SKY golf I say look at your twitter feed! There is a market out there for women’s  professional golf, a market that wants live golf, not a 1 hour highlights package on the Tuesday after the event or at 1am!

In 2 weeks time we have the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open at Archerfield, lets get every media outlet there to cover the event, TV, radio and written media.

Catriona Matthew will be there, that’s right the same Beany that secured the ½ point for victory in Denver, that’s reason enough for the media to attend?

As for the rest of the winning side I really don’t know who is in the field.

The LPGA have an event in Portland on at the same time and 10 of our team have LPGA cards.

And here is a huge problem going forward if the LET don’t get their act together.

In the US the LPGA enjoy media coverage from live events on the golf channel to main stream media to golf publications.

As a side bar for a second why do golf publications in the UK have so little women’s golf in them?????

Because of this they attract bigger sponsors with bigger purses, the LET need this exposure in order to grow their product.

I will tell you what really really scares me.

A few weeks ago a story was doing the rounds that the PGA was thinking of buying the European tour, lets be honest they have the money and so does the LPGA tour!

If the LPGA bought the LET the LET would turn into a feeder tour for the LPGA, yes many of you think that at the moment, I know, I know.

Europe does not only need the LET it needs a strong, progressive, imaginative, blossoming LET.

I want the LET to be on the phone to all and sundry including PR firms saying “Come on help us grow”

4 years ago there was talk of turning the Solheim into the USA v the rest of the world because “Europe simply cant give us a game anymore” 4 years is a long time in golf eh??

We have 2 years in Germany lets get our domestic act in order before then!
