The First Cut Is the Deepest

Well that was fun, well beyond fun to be honest.

Anyone who knows me, knows I love Archerfield, always have, Always will.

In last weeks blog I said how much I was looking forward to playing for 2 days in the Aberdeen Asset Management Ladies Scottish Open, love the event.

Well I got it wrong!!! I played in all 3 days!

How the hell I even made the cut is beyond me, but trust me I was not complaining.

Come Sunday morning my nerves were in shreds, at no point had I even thought of making the cut, actually Saturday night was a night mare.

As most of you know I had been struggling to get accommodation but eventually found a nice apartment and booked it for the Thursday and Friday nights, can you see where this is going?

So confident was I in my golfing abilities booking for Saturday night seemed a tad futile! D’oh !

I had a fantastic pro, Stephanie Na, not only a great golfer but a stunning looking young lady. Stehanie is an Aussie and kinda of struggled initially with my brogue, lets be honest my accent is strong and my voice is deep. I think on the first day the poor wee soul caught about every 2nd or 3rd word I said, but like a true pro she just smiled a lot at me.

After the 1st round we sat at -6 just inside the top 15, its only the top 15 amateurs at make the cut, so I thought -12 would be the figure after Saturday.

Saturday started off badly, really badly. I woke up with a locked right shoulder, I actually tweeted I was thinking of withdrawing.

Now the LET have an on site osteopath, Andy Levick, who is a great guy and knows his stuff.

He had a place set up in the absolutely stunning Archerfield spa so I waddled over to see if he could at least get it moving.

Now let me make this quite clear, I am SHIT SCARED of needles, I have a major needle phobia.

After working on the shoulder and clicking my neck Andy said the best thing for it was acupuncture !  Acu F in puncture !!!

At this point all I was thinking was “I want to play” but also “don’t look like a pussy and man up”

“Aye” I said with gritted teeth! Lets try it! OMG!

Thing is it worked, it really really worked! So thanks to Andy I made the first tee.

Conditions were breezy but not bad, simple truth was I played crap. Stephanie carried my fat ass big style, so we finished -8, cut missed, so I thought.

Having tea in the club I got speaking to a wonderful lady called Angela Ford, another of the amateurs. Entry to this was Angela’s  Christmas present from her husband and on Friday she was lying 3rd after shooting 9 umder, to say she was chuffed was an understatement. After Saturdays round she was 13 under and safely through to Sunday, I was genuinely so pleased for her because she was just such a nice person, so I wished her luck and told her to enjoy it, “but -8 made the cut” she said, “what” was my reply, it had never even dawned on me.

I sort of went on a dash, quick waddle to be fair, the the WSM site office to see if this was true. Yes -8 had made the cut, BUT there was 8 of us on -8 and only 4 could get through, so they were just doing a count back.

I spent the next 15 minutes like an expectant father outside a maternity ward! I think I paced a couple of miles and smoked 3 fags, my brain was fried! Then Fraser stuck his head out the office door, just grinned at me and said “yer in”.

I wont lie I gave a huge fist pump and shouted, yes shouted yes! I was on a mega high.

I turned to Donna and she just looked at me and calmly said “OK where are we going to stay tonight?”

Ah!!!!!

In the best Star Trek traditions, To Be Continued!
