Ye canny change the laws o physics

Einstein said “It has become appallingly obvious that our technology has exceeded our humanity”, not too sure if Albert played golf or not, but he was on to something.

I love golf, playing, watching, reading, writing, anything in fact.

I will never be a good player because, too put it mildly, I cant drive for toffee!

So at this time of year my brain goes on overload!

Everyone seems to have a new driver to launch, adjustable shaft, adjustable weights, sliding weights, duel core, tri core argghh the list goes on.

I have tried the lot so far!

Does any of it work? Does all of it work?

The bottom line is all the technology in the world wont help you unless you have at least the basics of a fundamental swing!

Put it this way you put me, Seb Vettel and Jimmie Johnson in 3 Subaru’s and there’s a fair chance I will finish 3rd. Why? Because they have a higher skill level than me.

In the last 4 years I have bought 5, yes 5, drivers. Everyone was perfect on the range. Every one seemed to be ok to start with but within weeks they are relegated to the garage or traded it!

Are they faulty? No. Are they poorly made? No. But my RBZ 3 wood goes straighter and just as long so why do I keep trying?

I used to have a Callaway Tour preferred FT9, best driver I ever had, by a mile.

I hit more fairways with it, hit it longer than anything I have ever had, it was perfect! Well it was until I got the death rattle in it.

The death rattle, just in case you have never heard of it, is when you hear a rattle inside the head. Its usually caused by “dead” glue falling off the shaft tip inside the head, trust me it annoys the life out of you!

I should have sent it back to Callaway to get it fixed properly, but no! Like a moron I tried to fix it myself! Result ? I warped the head!

Thing is the FT9 had no weights, no adjustable shaft, it was simply an awesome driver that I had custom fitted to my specs!

Be honest here have you, or do any of you, actually adjust your adjustable drivers? Or do you just have it on the same setting all the time?

Would your driving be improved by simply getting lessons from a PGA professional and getting a driver fitted to your specifications ?

Maybe all this technology helps you or maybe it just confuses you more?

For me driving is about confidence, you have to be confident in you as well as the club.

But don’t think that technology can buy you a game because it cant.

The only way you will get better is with lessons and practice.

In saying that I will be trying every driver out there come the start of the season, purely because I need to feel the love I had for my Callaway FT9.

But I will be backing it up with a series of lessons before the season starts.
